Parking at Hannover Airport –
Start relaxed. Arrive well.

Short stay, long stay, shuttle or valet — an overview of all parking options at HAJ, what matters most, and how to book cheaply and stress-free.

Overview

Parking options at HAJ at a glance

Hannover-Langenhagen Airport (HAJ) offers a range of parking areas to suit different needs — from a quick drop-off to long-stay parking for a multi-week holiday. One key point: booking online in advance almost always works out cheaper than arriving without a reservation.

Short-stay vs. long-stay parking

Short-stay parking

Drop-offs & pick-ups

  • Right next to the terminal
  • Suitable for up to 2–4 hours
  • Highest hourly rate
  • No advance booking needed
  • Not suitable for holidays

Long-stay parking

For holiday travellers

  • Further from the terminal
  • Walk or shuttle bus
  • Cheaper daily rate
  • Advance booking recommended
  • Ideal for 3 days to 4 weeks

Car parks and open-air lots

HAJ has both covered multi-storey car parks and open-air lots. Car parks offer weather protection and are closer to the terminal — a real benefit in bad weather or when you have heavy luggage. Open-air lots are generally cheaper and a good choice for longer trips if a short shuttle ride is no problem.

Alongside the airport's own parking areas, there are also private operators on surrounding land with shuttle connections to the terminal. These are often the cheapest option — a price comparison is always worth doing.

Shuttle parking and valet parking explained

Shuttle parking (Park & Ride)

Your car is parked at an off-airport facility. A free shuttle bus runs to the terminal — usually every 10 to 20 minutes. This option is generally cheaper than parking at the airport itself. Important: check shuttle times and journey duration when booking, so you allow enough time for check-in.

Valet parking (Meet & Greet)

Hand your car to a member of staff right at the terminal entrance — they take care of parking it. When you return, your car is waiting at the exit. No walking, no shuttle, no searching. Valet parking is the most convenient option and is especially practical for early departures, heavy luggage or families with children. Advance booking is essential.

Checklist: what to check before booking

01

Distance to the terminal

How far is the car park from the terminal — on foot or by shuttle? Particularly important for travellers with lots of luggage or limited mobility.

02

Shuttle times and frequency

For shuttle car parks: how often does the bus run? Is there an early service for departures before 6 am? Allow at least 30–45 minutes buffer time.

03

Cancellation conditions

Can you change or cancel for free? Most reputable providers allow free cancellation up to 24–48 hours before entry. Always check the terms during the booking process.

04

Security and lighting

Is the car park fenced and CCTV monitored? Is there lighting for late-night arrivals? Reviews from other users on the booking portal give a good indication.

05

Key handover: yes or no?

With valet parking, handing over your key is standard — your car will be moved. With standard long-stay parking you keep your key. If you prefer not to hand over your key, check the parking type carefully.

06

Early departures and families with luggage

For flights before 6 am: check shuttle times in advance — not all providers run around the clock. Families with pushchairs or lots of luggage benefit from terminal-adjacent spaces or valet parking.

Alternative: getting to the airport without a car

For some travellers, parking is not necessary at all — depending on where you live and how much luggage you have, these alternatives can be cheaper and less stressful:

S-Bahn S5 from Hannover Hauptbahnhof

The S5 runs directly from Hannover Central Station to the airport terminal — around 15 minutes, roughly every 30 minutes. The cheapest and traffic-free option for travellers from central Hannover and well-connected districts. Those travelling from surrounding areas (Hildesheim, Peine, Sehnde) will need an onward connection.

Taxi or ridesharing

For very early departures before 5 am, heavy luggage, or travellers from areas not served by the S5, a taxi or ridesharing service is a comfortable choice. Journey time from the city centre is around 20–25 minutes depending on traffic. For groups, the fare splits well and can be more attractive than long-stay parking.

Get a lift

The most classic solution — and often the most sensible for shorter trips of around a week. No parking space, no shuttle, no booking. If you know someone nearby, you save both money and time.

Frequently asked questions

How much does parking at Hannover Airport cost?

Prices depend on parking type, provider and how far in advance you book. Booking online in advance is almost always cheaper than arriving without a reservation. See the booking section below for a current comparison.

How far in advance should I book?

2–4 weeks is a good rule of thumb. In peak season (July/August, Easter, Christmas) book earlier — affordable spaces disappear quickly.

What is valet parking (Meet & Greet)?

Hand your car over right at the terminal. No walking, no shuttle. Your car is waiting at the exit when you return. Advance booking is essential. More expensive than standard parking, but maximally convenient.

Can I cancel my booking for free?

Most providers allow free cancellation up to 24–48 hours before your arrival. Conditions are clearly shown during the booking process.

Is there parking at HAJ for early morning flights?

Yes — but for shuttle car parks, always check whether the shuttle runs before 5 am. Terminal-adjacent car parks and valet parking are independent of shuttle times and are therefore the safer choice for very early departures.
