Family Holidays –
Arrive together.
Beach, sun, pool — and children who disappear into the sand. A great family holiday happens when the logistics and the relaxation actually work together.

Planning a family holiday
Family holidays no longer mean a fixed-schedule club resort with entertainment staff. The range stretches from quiet self-catering apartments in Croatian coves to family-friendly package hotels in Mallorca to large all inclusive resorts in Turkey. What matters is not the format but the fit: How old are the children? How much structure does the family want? How far from the beach is acceptable?
Package holidays have a clear advantage for families: flights, accommodation and transfers are bundled — one point of contact, one price, one booking. If something goes wrong, the tour operator's statutory liability applies. For first-time travellers with children, this logistical safety net has real value.
Around 2 hours from Central Europe, Mallorca is the ideal starter destination for families. Wide sandy beaches like Playa de Palma or the shallow northern bays (Alcúdia, Pollença) suit small children well. The choice runs from quiet self-catering apartments to large club complexes with supervised children's animation.
Rhodes, Corfu and Kos offer a good selection of family-friendly hotels. The calm, clear water in many Greek bays is particularly easy for younger children. Historical sites add interest for older children and teenagers.
Crete combines long sandy beaches (Rethymno, Chania) with rocky coves and exceptionally clear water. The interior offers gorge hikes and mountain villages as day trips. A good choice for families combining beach time with active excursions.
Antalya, Side and Belek are the classics for family all inclusive holidays. The large resorts in this region have specialised in families: water parks, children's clubs with professional supervision, shallow beach sections and round-the-clock animation. Hard to beat for families with many requirements under one roof.
Hurghada on the Red Sea is one of the most affordable all inclusive destinations for families. The Red Sea is calmer than the Mediterranean and provides an excellent first snorkelling experience for children. Families with a cultural interest can add day trips to the Pyramids or Luxor.
Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote work in autumn half-term and Easter as well as summer — the mild climate makes them viable year-round. Southern Tenerife (Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas) has a particularly dense concentration of family-friendly hotel complexes.
Croatia suits families who prefer nature, quiet bays and discovery over classic club resort life. The island of Krk is connected to the mainland by bridge — ideal for families driving. The water is exceptionally clear; national parks and waterfalls are within day-trip range.
Not every hotel that markets itself as "family-friendly" lives up to the label. What matters are concrete features: a supervised children's club with fixed opening hours, a shallow kids' pool separate from the main pool, direct beach access without a shuttle bus, child-appropriate menus beyond chips and nuggets, and included airport transfers as part of the package. In package deals, transfers are typically included; with hotel-only bookings it is worth comparing transfer costs in advance.
All inclusive is particularly appealing for families: snacks and drinks available at any time, no budget tracking, no arguments about restaurant prices. For parents, the relaxation factor is significant — no one has to get up in the afternoon to pay for an ice cream. Important: the quality of children's facilities varies considerably. Some all inclusive hotels are explicitly designed for families (children's club, supervision, water park); others are geared towards couples and adults.
Holiday apartments and houses offer families more space, a kitchen and more freedom in daily routines. For families with toddlers — who go to sleep early, have their own eating habits and need room — a self-catering property can be the better choice over a hotel. Croatia and Greece offer particularly good selections of holiday houses in quiet locations directly by the sea. Our partner has a wide range: holiday homes and apartments.
